Delivering Social Value in Action: Joint Litter Pick with Mitie and LSBU

At Walkers Cleaning & Support Services, we believe that meaningful partnerships go beyond contracts and service delivery, they create opportunities to invest in people, places, and the planet. Yesterday was a perfect example of that in action, as we proudly joined forces with our colleagues from Mitie and London South Bank University (LSBU) for a collaborative litter pick across LSBU’s Southwark campus.

The initiative was designed as part of a wider commitment to social value and community engagement, bringing together volunteers from all three organisations. Working side by side, we collected litter from public walkways, green spaces, and surrounding streets, helping to create a cleaner, more welcoming environment for students, staff, and the local community.

This event wasn’t just about cleaning up, it was about showing up. It demonstrated the positive outcomes that can be achieved when like-minded partners come together with a shared purpose. For Walkers, as the specialist cleaning provider supporting Mitie’s facilities contract at LSBU, it was a chance to step beyond our day-to-day responsibilities and contribute to something bigger.

The Power of Partnership

A key strength of this initiative was the collaboration between all parties involved. LSBU hosted and welcomed the volunteers. Mitie led the coordination through their facilities management framework. Walkers provided additional operational support and specialist knowledge to make sure the effort was both safe and effective.

These kinds of joint activities strengthen relationships on the ground and reinforce the core values we share with our partners, responsibility, sustainability, and service to community.

We extend our sincere thanks to James Reed and Ellen Curley for their ongoing support and hands-on involvement. Their leadership and engagement ensured a well-organised and impactful event that reflected the high standards of care and professionalism all three organisations strive for.

Our Ongoing Commitment to Social Value

As a business, Walkers is deeply committed to embedding social value into everything we do, from providing local employment and skills development opportunities, to promoting environmental responsibility across our contracts.

Activities like this litter pick are not just one-off efforts, they are part of a sustained approach to community-focused operations. We continue to work with our partners to identify opportunities for positive social impact, whether through sustainability initiatives, local engagement, or inclusive employment practices.

This event was a small step, but one that reflects a much larger journey. We’re proud to be part of it.

Together, we are building cleaner, greener, and more connected communities.
